How It All Started
1993. New York, USA
At the age of 22, Alex comes to visit his father and decides to stay and see for himself whether America truly lives up to its reputation as a land of boundless opportunities.
Armed with a food tech college diploma and only basic English skills, Gerchik takes on a job as a taxi driver. Throughout his drives, he encounters all kinds of people, with stock traders capturing his particular interest.
Their lingo brimming with words such as futures, options, and spreads sounded Greek to him, yet this only sparked his deep interest, inspiring Alex to pursue a career as a trader.
The sole route to Wall Street required obtaining a stock broker's license. Achieving this involved completing a rigorous four-month course and passing a challenging 7-hour exam with 250 questions. Despite having to independently learn trading from the ground up, Gerchik not only excelled in the exam but also ranked among the top five students.
Being one of the brightest graduates, he landed a position as an assistant trader in a small company, gaining valuable experience during his eight-month tenure. This marked the initial stride toward success in his trading journey.
